The 34th Merimbula SUP Classic (27th - 30th Nov)

Hosted by the Merimbula sailboard club, John Smyth and the guys have been watching the event transform over the last thirty years into what it has become now, and that’s mostly a stand up paddle event! Add into the mix great seabreezes, world famous after parties and the biggest range of demo and display equipment on show, to make the 2014 Merimbula classic the biggest Stand Up Paddle event in Australia.
This year marks the 34th running event, and who knows what designer Stan Squire is going to cook up for the event poster. They’re always incredibly detailed, and a little bit naughty, but that’s why we love ‘em!
On the itinerary for this years event is a new format for the “Beach 2 Bar SUP Race’, which will see paddlers starting from inside the estuary and paddling out through the inlet, into the surf and onto the main beach. It’s a relay affair, so you need a team, but as past events have shown, it’s not always the hot shots that win it! Dress ups are encouraged, so bring your man-kini or your favourite wig, after all, it’s the Merimbula Classic!
Also on the cards is some downwind racing, surf comp and in the afternoons the clockwork Merimbula Seabreeze is sure to bring out all the wind junkies on kites and sails. It’s going to be a huge year, so mark it down in your calendar and head down south for one of the best SUP events in the world.
